1960's in America
The 1960's were the years everything had started to change and progress on wards. From the culture, the fashion, technology and music, but none of these wouldn't have been possible without the actions of the government. This article explains just that, what the changes where and how they affected music in our life's as well as musicians living within that time.
Economy
America in the 1960's was 'revolutionary' as some may say, others may say it was time for change. The 1960's did in fact have many changes which will be within this article, relating it back to music these different changes was always linked to politics which was linked back to music in many ways. Within the 1960's Dwight D. Eisenhower was coming to his last years on the presidential throne, soon followed by President John Kennedy who only became president for 3 years after a successful assassination. Many people of the public knew that he was assassinated due the agreeing to the civil rights movement. Even so, within this period of time there was a Vietnam war against America to prevent communism. Within the 1960's there were other revolutionary changes including the 'Youth Movement ' This is where both culture and politics changed, it changed the way people thought about society and moral values. The children who where post war babies in World War 2 where now becoming young adults/ adults and where becoming more aware of society around them. This escalated to the adults becoming more responsible for the birth of hippies and drugs and the continuous protests, civil rights movement and the label of the 1960's becoming one of the most remembered years of change. |
How it affects music...
The changes within the 60s has affected music in many ways, not only has it brung out new styles of music but it has become a huge part of our lives. These can be within little things such as background music within movies, protest songs and modern day music on TV to help us feel the emotions we should at that moment. However music hasn't only just affected the public, it has also affected dfferent musicians within this time. Many musicians have a certain influence which helps them to write their songs, the 1960's was a huge influence on artists who were into writing music about tragidies and 'problems'. Politics have affected music as it has influenced musicians to make succesfull compositions where there are hidden messages about their opinions of the government, some listeners may be able to hear them whereas others may enjoy the song for its new style. An example of an artist who was affected by this era and location is; Bob Dylan! The public within the 1960's only wanted; love, music and peace, but when they saw that the government was disrupting their ideas they decided to do something about it.

Protests
Within the 1960s there were numerous amount of protests that flooded different places within America. For example; - Civil rights movement -The student movement -The anti-Vietnam War movement -The women’s movement -The gay rights movement -The environmental movement All at some degree changed many government policies as well as how every American lives today! However rather than using the ordinary voting system and waiting for someone else to fix the issue, the members of the public spoke directly to the government through; -Public marches -Picketing -Sit - Ins -Rallies -Petition drive Many of these events lead to musicians becoming famous musicians.
